The Gautier Capuçon Foundation was established by cellist Gautier Capuçon to help budding musicians establish professional careers. This performance by a cello and piano duo, selected as the third of its recordings, shows the individuality of each. This debut album by Duo Schm (schm means noise) pays tribute to a number of lesser-known works from the cello and piano repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries.From Asia Minor (Anatolian Peninsula) to the Baltic Sea, the source of this musical journey is Turkey, beginning with Fazil Say's sonata "Four Cities" and evoking its sounds, smells, colors and landscapes of Ukraine, Russia, Romania and Estonia, the intersection of East and West. Lisa Strauss was born in Paris in 1998. After receiving her highest master's degree from the Conservatoire de Paris Region and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, she studied with Yo-Yo Ma, Ivry Gitlis, Lynn Harrell, and others. She attended the Philippe Jaroussky Music Academy, was a recipient of the 2020 Fondation Banque Populaire and Fondation Villa Musica, and has been invited to perform soloist, chamber music, and music festivals, collaborating with many contemporary composers. Anastasia Ryzhikov, born in Toronto in 1998, is a Ukrainian immigrant who began playing the piano at the age of five and made rapid progress, winning her first international prize at the Horowitz Competition in Kiev at the age of seven and performing Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 3 at the age of 13. At the age of 16, she won first prize at the Haen Piano Competition in Spain, becoming the youngest winner in the competition's 57-year history.In 2023, he and Gautier Capuçon gave nearly 20 concerts to rave reviews in Luxembourg, Switzerland, the United States, and China.
