The legendary alternative rock band’s miraculous “acoustic” live performance at Newport, the mecca of folk music, is now available on vinyl for the first time! Formed in Boston in the late 1980s by Frank Black, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago, and David Lovering, the Pixies were a once-in-a-generation collective that redefined the concept of rock with their dynamic interplay of quiet and intensity. Having exerted a decisive influence on later generations of alternative rock acts, including NIRVANA, they continue to reign at the pinnacle of the scene with their unique creativity even after their reunion. This release captures an extremely rare acoustic set performed by the band in 2005 at the Newport Folk Festival, a mecca for folk music. The four original members reunited to reconstruct their signature songs with stripped-down acoustic arrangements, resulting in a monumental live document that lays bare their raw musical prowess and the fundamental beauty of their songs. Featuring 22 tracks in total, including "MONKEYGONETOHEAVEN," which casts an unsettling shadow over the sound of acoustic instruments; "HERECOMESYOURMAN," whose dry lyricism strikes a chord; and "WHEREISMYMIND," where serene tension reaches its peak. Their twisted intellect and exceptional songwriting—which stand out precisely because they have set aside their electric roar—resound directly from the grooves of this analog record. This is an extremely high-fidelity live recording in which even the audience’s breathing is captured as distinct sonic textures. Twenty years after its initial release, this precious audio—long available only through video recordings—has finally been released on vinyl for the first time.
