The band was formed by Robert Wyatt (dr/vo), David Sinclaire (key), Phil Miller (g), and Bill MacCormick (b), all of whom would later represent the Canterbury scene. The band's debut album was digitally remastered in 24-bit and reissued as an expanded 2-CD set by Esoteric Recordings in '12!Disc2 contains 'Signed Curtain(Take Two)' from '71/'72 Recording Session, 'Memories Membrane', 'Part Of The Dance(Take One)' and 'Horse' which is released for the first time on this disc. January/April '72 'Immediate Kitten'' from the BBC Radio music program "JOHN PEEL SESSION", which was also included in the '2007 excavation live disc "ON THE RADIO" released by Hux Records in the U.K. Marchides/Instant Pussy/Smoke Signal' Studio Live recordings from January/April '72.One of the best albums of the Canterbury scene with a perfect balance of Robert Wyatt's unique sense of wit/humor and the thrilling solos/improvisation with a strong element of flexibility that SOFT MACHINE had in their early days, led by the masterpiece 'O Caroline'! One of the best works of the Canterbury scene! The master was digitally remastered using the original master tapes by Paschal Byrne of THE AUDIO ARCHIVING, who has remastered SOFT MACHINE and other Canterbury releases and reissues on the same label. Disc 1 includes 'O Caroline' and 'Signed Curtain' from the same year's single release and 'Part Of The Dance Jam', a previously unreleased track from the sessions that took place during the making of this album. Booklet features rare photos and a new bio by Sid Smith. Includes 3 bonus tracks, 3 previously unreleased tracks, 24Bit Digital Remaster, 2CD set.
