Since the birth of modern jazz in the 1950s, the music has continued to develop through the creative efforts of various jazz musicians who have taken on what could be called challenges. Pat Metheny is undoubtedly one of the most significant contributors to this music, taking it in a variety of directions. In particular, the many masterpieces released by the Pat Metheny Group, which was at the center of his creative activities, and the concert activities that accompanied those releases, expanded the possibilities of jazz music and created a large fan base. The album "Speaking of Now" was produced by what is considered the strongest lineup in the history of the Pat Metheny Group and was released in 2002. The album reached No. 1 on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart and won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album.With the release of this album, the band has been on a world tour for a long time, and a live album featuring their live performances in France and Japan is now available! The album includes their performance at the historic jazz festival "Jazz a Vienne" in July 2002 in France, and their Tokyo concert in September 2002 in Japan. The album is a "best of" type of performance, featuring songs from the new album as well as representative songs from the past. The participation of Richard Bona, a bassist and vocalist from Cameroon who joined the band for the recording of the new album and for this tour only, highlighted the excellence of the live performance on this tour, and the band performed an astonishing performance that has been described as "the second coming of Jaco Pastorius. The live album from this tour has never been officially released, so this is truly a long-awaited work for fans!
