Description:

Schubert Series No. 8Listening to the Inner Voice and Invoking the Deep Soul of Sound "Of all the Schubert piano performances I have had the pleasure of listening to (among others), there is no other reproduction artist who has listened to the voice of Daimon and has gone deepest into its physical roots than Aki Takahashi. Feldman says that she creates a place of "séance. What she finds in Schubert, and what unites us, is what Proust calls 'the communication of spirits. Michifuyu Kitao (from the booklet) This is the eighth in a series of recordings of Schubert's piano works by Aki Takahashi. The Sonata No. 15, D.840, and the Improvisation, D.935, etc., listen to the inner voice of Schubert and call forth his deepest sound soul. Aki Takahashi (piano) gave her first recital in 1970 and traveled to Europe for the first time in 1972, giving well-received recitals at the Berlin Art Week and the Paris Autumn Art Festival. In 1973, he received the 1973 Art Festival Excellence Award for "The World of Aki Takahashi," a collection of 20 contemporary works from Japan and abroad, and in 1975, together with Kuniharu Akiyama, he organized the "Erik Satie Concert Series," a major event that led to the "rediscovery" of Satie. In 1980, he was invited by Morton Feldman to visit the U.S. In 1984, he was a visiting professor at the California Institute of the Arts. In 2003, he received the 21st Kenzo Nakajima Award for his "Piano Dramatic" series at Hamarikyu Asahi Hall in Tokyo. He has also released numerous CDs, including the "Hyper Beatles" series, in which he commissioned leading contemporary composers from around the world to perform works based on Beatles' numbers, and completed four CDs. In 2006, his recital of Feldman's works in New York was named one of the best concerts of 2006 by the New York Times. For his performances of the CDs "Schubert: Sonatas for Piano" and "Morton Feldman: Trio," he was awarded the 2007 Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Art Encouragement Prize.
