Description:
The Los Angeles Philharmonic's heavyweight spectacular sound explodes! The DECCA recording of "The Planets" has been reissued from the original analog master tapes in its home country for this release. Coupled with the overwhelming sound of the "Star Wars" Suite! After Mehta became Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1962, the duo made many recordings with Decca, and this 1971 recording of "The Planets" has been reissued in 2018 as PROC 2173, along with "Zarathustra" from 1968 and "The Rite of Spring" from the following year (two of which will be reissued in 2018 as part of this project). The Planets" is highly acclaimed as one of the most representative recordings of the two, along with "Zarathustra Speaks" from 1968 and "The Rite of Spring" from the following year. The DECCA recordings from this period are particularly outstanding, and Mehta also featured many large-ensemble works, which is why there are still many fans of his music today. The original label released an SA-CD single-layer in 2016, and the SA-CD hybrid version was released by Analogue Production in the U.S. and by Universal Hong Kong, but all are now hard to find.In addition to "The Planets," we have added the "Star Wars" Suite, recorded in 1977, although the coupling is the same as in the previous commercial release. This piece was originally released in combination with the "Encounter with the Unknown" suite, and is well known as a performance that ranks alongside the aforementioned two masterpieces. Although the composition periods are different, it is an interesting coupling in terms of the key word "space" that transcends time, so it was also used in commercial releases. For this reissue, we have once again reissued the original analog master tapes back to the latest, original analog master tapes in the country of origin, aiming for the highest sound quality available today.
