Among them, this collection of Kodály's works is as highly acclaimed as the complete symphonies of Dvořák. Kertesz's ability to bring out the essential splendor and background of Kodály's original works, and not just his hometown, is superb, and this recording should be highly praised for bringing the appeal of Kodály, which was undervalued outside of postwar Europe, to international recognition. This is a sound recording that should be highly regarded for its ability to bring Kodaly's charms to international attention. Another reason for the increased recognition is that the DECCA's realistic sound image and dynamic renditions are a perfect match for Kertesz's passionate conducting and the work.Needless to say, this is a recording that even today ranks at the forefront of Kodály's representative orchestral works, along with those by Fritschai. For this release, in addition to the original 1964 recording of the suite "Hari János" as the first piece, we have added "Variations on a Hungarian Folk Song 'Peacock'," which was released in 1969 as a coupling with "Hungarian Poems". Originally, these three pieces were standard on previous CDs, and two arias from "Hari János" were omitted from this recording, but they are now included on one album, in accordance with the original recording. I think it can be said that Kertesz was very particular about including this piece, and since he later recorded the entire "Hari János" as well, one can sense the strength of his feelings about the piece.
