[In 1962, at the young age of 26, Mehta became the music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, a position he held until 1977. He left behind many masterpieces on Decca's excellent recordings, and became a dominant figure in the music world. His recordings of "Tsara" and "The Rite of Spring" won the 1969 and 1971 Record Academy Awards, respectively.
