Indoyan & Yoncheva’s first joint album as a married couple is now available from Onyx! Featuring songs by Martucci & Canteloube! In 2010, she won the “Operalia” International Vocal Competition founded by Plácido Domingo and shot to stardom overnight; she now performs at the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House, La Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera, the Berlin State Opera, and the Opéra National de Paris, where she has taken on leading roles one after another. She is one of the finest sopranos of our time, Sonya Yoncheva (Sonia Yoncheva), making her debut on the Onyx label! She is releasing her first collaborative album with her husband, conductor Domingo Indoyan! Although the program—featuring Martucci and Canteloube—may be somewhat unexpected, given that Yoncheva typically excels in Italian opera and Baroque works, Martucci’s works—with their rich legato and long, sustained phrases that evoke the lyricism found in Italian opera—truly allow Yoncheva’s voice and expressiveness to shine. She performs two pieces: *Song of Remembrance* and *Nocturne*. Completed in 1914 by the French composer Canteloube—a little over a decade before his *Songs of Auvergne* achieved immortal fame—*Triptyque* is, as its name suggests, a collection of three songs. It is an elegant and delicate work in which Roger Ferran’s poetry celebrating nature is seamlessly integrated with a richly colored orchestra, and Yoncheva and Indoyan present it with a meticulous sense of balance. Another work by Canteloube, *To a Distant Princess*, is a symphonic poem based on Edmond Rostand’s play, and this is its world premiere recording. The Bulgarian-born soprano, whose spectacular opera debut in Japan in 2023—featuring her signature role in *Tosca*—is still fresh in our memories, is set to shine even brighter with this new addition to her repertoire!
