Papaioannou studied in Athens and Paris, especially under Honegger in Paris. While influenced by French Impressionism, he established his own style, incorporating Greek folk elements, Scandinavian expressionism, and even a hint of Russian Futurism. This album contains works from the 1940s and 1950s, one of his creative peaks. The album features colorful and dramatic orchestral sounds, such as "Vassilis Alvanitis," a large-scale "symphonic legend" based on a novel, and "Samothrace," which was never performed during his lifetime. Byron Fidesz, an authority on Greek music, was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. He studied cello and conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and for many years was the conductor of the Greek National Opera and the National Orchestra of Athens.He has dedicated his life to the discovery and dissemination of modern and contemporary Greek music, and his recordings are highly acclaimed.
