Gabriel Fauré was a leading figure in the French chamber music revival, and his bold and expressive works influenced many composers. The innovative and insatiably inquisitive Fauré can be seen in the works for cello and piano included in this album. The pieces are characterized by a rich harmony that evolves into a complex style. Cellist Pauline Bartisol studied in Paris and Cologne with Leon Fleischer, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Hatte Bayerle. She was a soloist with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France from 2007 to 2019, performing with Myung-Whun Chung and Mikko Frank. An accomplished teacher, she has been teaching at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris since 2013.Passionate in his interpretation of French music and an ardent defender of forgotten composers, Laurent Vagshal has recorded Saint-Saëns, Fauré, Franck, Chausson, Debussy, as well as Magnard, Ducasse, Pierné, Capré, Gaubert, Florent Schmidt, Vierne, Maurice Emmanuel, Jean Clas, and Francais, among others, and his discography has been praised by media such as Diapason, Classica, Gramophone, and The Guardian.
