Franz Liszt was renowned as a superb pianist in his youth. Many were shocked when he entered the priesthood in 1865. However, it was not particularly surprising that he sought salvation in the religious world, as he had been plagued by many problems up to that time, including women's relationships, family problems, and artistic conflicts. At this time, he wrote introspective compositions such as "Poetic and Religious Tunes," and as he grew older, he began to write more works that pursued a deeper spiritual dimension. The works on this album are all from his later years, with the exception of the Rossini transcriptions. Harmony is simplified, and at times the melodies are rough and rugged. This is a collection of gems, a sublimation of the peace of soul that Liszt sought in his final days. Naxos Japan
