This is the first collection of recordings of Beethoven's complete cello works by Gabriel Schwabe, who has won prizes in three international cello competitions named after famous composers: Feuermann, Rostropovich, and Fournier. The album features Sonatas Nos. 1 and 2, which Beethoven premiered with the Dupaul brothers and dedicated to Friedrich Wilhelm II in his mid-20s, and two variations based on arias from Mozart's opera "The Magic Flute." Making full use of a 1695 Giuseppe Guarneri cello, he plays alongside The two cellos are played with youthful and emotional expression by the British pianist Nicholas Rimmer. Naxos Japan
