Description:
Silvius Leopold Weiss was a composer of the German Baroque period. He was one of the greatest lutenists of this period, performing at the German court, in Rome, and in Dresden. He composed more than 600 sonatas and suites for the lute, which are still very popular today. In this album, guitarist Daniel Zerowicz has selected from Weiss's vast oeuvre two sonatas, two tondo (memorial pieces for the deceased), a capriccio, a technical passacaglia, and a fantasia, which he has arranged for the guitar. The two sonatas titled "The Gentiles" and "The Famous Pirate" can be called a "suite" of dances, and Czerowicz plays each piece with great skill, making the most of its character and style.
