On this album, the performers themselves (with a few exceptions) have arranged the masterpieces of Debussy and Ravel for guitar duo. Many guitarists have been attracted to Debussy's music. In his autobiography, Segovia wrote that "Arabesque No. 2 was a favorite of mine when I was young," and Julien Bream said that "the tone of the guitar is appropriate for Debussy. Ravel's music may seem less guitar-friendly, but some of his arrangements, such as the "Morning Song of a Clown," which opens the album, seem to reveal the clown's staggering gait, and some of his arrangements can be used to great effect. Both composers' works bring new life to the songs with their complex harmonies and rich sonorities. Naxos Japan
