Description:

Born in Sheffield in 1816 to an organist father, Standaert Bennett was introduced to music by his grandfather after his father's early death. At the age of 10, he entered the Royal Academy of Music as a special student, where he studied violin, piano, and composition for 10 years. After hearing it, Mendelssohn took notice of his talent and invited Bennett to Germany. Later, while performing in England, he frequently visited Germany, and in Leipzig he became friends with Schumann, with whom he formed a strong mutual friendship. This album contains three chamber works by Bennett. The Sextet with Piano is a powerful work with a strong emotional expression that clearly shows the influence of Mendelssohn, but on a larger scale than Mendelssohn. Also included are a trio and a string quartet, both recorded for the first time in the world.This is one of the most surprisingly beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. Naxos Japan
