Description:
Doohan's retirement. The new champion has a great father, Kenny Roberts Jr.! The champion Mick Doohan, who reigned as the absolute champion until 1998, has retired, and all eyes are on the new champion, Alex Crivile, to defend his title. In addition, the winds of a new era began to blow on the circuit with the entry of Valentino Rossi in the highest class from this season. Crivile was aiming for back-to-back championships, but after winning the 5th round in France, he was unable to ride the wave of the season. The thoroughbred Kenny Roberts, the son of a great father, was the one who jumped to the front of the pack, despite the struggling champion. After winning the second round in Malaysia, Roberts consistently climbed onto the podium. Rossi, a promising newcomer from the 250cc class, also made a big breakthrough. He was second only to Roberts at the top of the standings, and in the 4th round he took his first GP class podium, followed by his first win in the 9th round at the British GP. His driving and showmanship were a sign that he would become a major force in road racing in the years to come. Roberts Jr. won the battle with Rossi and became the long-sought after 2000 champion.With the quality genes inherited from his father, he became the first rider in history to win the title of champion in two generations. Also, Japanese rider Norick Abe, a.k.a. Norifumi Abe, showed his success by winning the third round of the Japanese GP. (Japanese ranking: Norick Abe 8th, Nobuatsu Aoki 10th, Tadayuki Okada 11th, Tetsuya Harada 16th, etc.)
