Description:
The new standard-bearer of the French Baroque violin world, de Swarte's lush and vivid technique. The new French Baroque violin star de Swarte has released a collection of Vivaldi's concertos. Leading his own ensemble, Le Console, de Swarte portrays Vivaldi's life through his works with surprising freshness, vivid technique, and tasteful ornamentation. Even the A minor concerto, which is always played by violin students, is as fresh as if heard for the first time. Lenglenzi was born more than 50 years before Vivaldi, but he had a close relationship with Vivaldi's father, who is thought to have taught Vivaldi music as a child. De Swarte wanted to include a work that evokes something of a precursor to Vivaldi's style, so the disc opens with a piece from an opera by Regrenzi, written three years before Vivaldi's birth. In addition, Westhoff's work "Imitation of the Sound of Bells," which Pisendel is said to have played for Vivaldi to hear, is performed with violin solo only on a dare to recreate the scene. Vivaldi may have been introduced to new German violin techniques through this work. The world premiere recording of "Summer" from "The Four Seasons" uses the original version before Vivaldi published it in 1725. There are no major differences from the published version, but the "cuckoo" scene, for example, is more extreme, and Vivaldi may have simplified it a bit to make it more playable and understandable for publication. In any case, the performance here is very detailed and precise, and the storm scene is not carried away by the momentum of the music. Not only the differences in the editions, but also the performances are different from the existing recordings, giving the impression of a new generation. Each track is a must-hear, including a piece of Vivaldi that has been studied for two centuries and rediscovered in 2022, making for a powerful disc! Le Console is an up-and-coming ensemble founded in 2015 by de Swarte and Justin Taylor. In 2017, he won first prize and the Audience Prize at the Val de Loire International Old Music Competition, where Christie serves as jury president, and has since expanded his activities dramatically. De Swarte has performed with Christie's Les Arts Florissants as a member and now as a soloist and conductor with the orchestra. As a soloist, de Swarte often works with Christie and Justin Taylor, as well as luthier Thomas Dunford and pianist Tanguy de Villiencourt. His repertoire includes Baroque as well as Romantic works, and he is a hotly sought after member of the new generation of French Baroque violinists and violists. King International
