The two “Three-Part Sinfonias” included on the album are performed as a trio featuring recorder, violin, and viola. The ensembles—which unfold under Pogger’s guidance like lively conversations between two or three people—are incredibly captivating, and the steady technique and fresh expression of recorder player Lucy Holsch, who has already released four albums on Decca, are truly wonderful and justify the album’s popularity. The Irish traditional piece included as the final track is an arrangement by the two musicians; featuring double stops on the recorder, it is a charming and endearing gem.
