Giuseppe Austri, a 19th-century Italian violinist and composer of great ability who was praised by Rossini and Verdi, is little remembered today, He died a solitary man, suffering from illness and poverty in his later years. This world premiere recording reveals the originality and virtuosity of his works, which combine Paganini-style flourishes and delicate cantabile, and will surely reveal new fascinations in 19th century Italian music. His masterpiece "Capriccio Fantastico," Op. 8, was a success at its premiere, prompting calls for an encore, while "Farewell to Lisbon," Op. 4, and "Memories of Spain," Op. 6, were also highly acclaimed for their excellent composition and well-sung melodies. In each of these works, the violin plays the leading role and is effectively supported by the piano. The performance is led by the internationally acclaimed Italian violinist Marco Loriano.After studying at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia, he went on to study with Ruggiero Ricci, Riccardo Brengola, and Salvatore Accardo, and has been highly praised by numerous music magazines.
