Description:
Siegfried Kalk-Erlert was a German composer who studied at the Leipzig Conservatory under Salomon Jadassohn and Carl Reinecke. He later became active as a pedagogue and began composing in earnest when his works were recognized by Reznicek and others. In his early works, the influence of his teacher Jadassohn was strong, and the salon-like style of Mendelssohn's music is evident, but he gradually turned to more complex and sensual harmonic language, and in his later years he also turned to atonal music. In recent years, much attention has been paid to his flute works, but his organ works are said to have influenced Messiaen, and he is also known for his instructional books for the harmonium, which he loved to play. This box contains works from various periods of Kalk-Ehrhardt's career, recorded for the cpo label between 1986 and 2004. It includes excerpts from his most famous organ work, "66 Chorale Improvisations," an organ symphony, as well as an album of Wagner's overtures performed on the harmonium, original works for the harmonium, and an accordion version of some of these works.It also includes a number of ingenious piano works, allowing the listener to fully appreciate his multifaceted creative world.
