Description:
Paul Büttner(1870-1943):. Contents 1. heroic overture in C major 2-4. prelude, fugue and epilogue "apparition Symphony No. 2 in G major Performers Frankfurt Brandenburg State Orchestra Jörg-Peter Weigle, conductor Recording: Frankfurt/Oder, Messehalle IJanuary 11-13, 2022...2-7 May 17, 2022...1 Total recording time: 73 min. Paul Büttner received composition training under Felix Drezeke. He taught choral music at the Dresden Conservatory (where he later became principal) and was a critic for the Dresden National Newspaper. As a composer, he left behind a relatively compact body of work, including four symphonies, and remained in the tradition of absolute music throughout his life, even within the German musical current of the late Romantic period. Although some influence of his contemporaries Strauss and Mahler can be seen, his structure, which excludes narrative as much as possible, has aspects in common with Beethoven and Bruckner. The influence of non-German music is minimal, with only a few Slavic rhythms and sentiments, while French and English elements are almost non-existent. The Heroic Overture was written in 1925.It was premiered at the Dresden Music Festival in 1927 under the direction of Paul van Kempen. It is written in a dramatic structure, and ends with a grand conclusion in a strotta. Prelude, Fugue and Epilogue "Vision" was written in 1922. It was premiered in Dresden in 1923 under the baton of Fritz Busch and performed in Berlin in 1932. The Second Symphony was composed in 1902. It took some time before its premiere, and was finally performed in Dresden on February 11, 1916, under the baton of Hermann Kutschbach. It is notable for its excellent counterpoint, especially in the last movement, which features a lucid melody with sparkling rhythms reminiscent of Haydn. (Naxos Japan)
