Alfred Schnittke began working with film music in the 1960s, composing 66 pieces between 1962 and 1984. His style was not well received by the avant-garde, but was well received by film audiences and concert audiences. This sixth collection of film music includes music for the 1979 serial television drama "Little Tragedy," based on Pushkin's original story. Pushkin's original story consists of four short stories, and with the exception of the original "The Petty Knight," all of which are traditional tales - Don Juan, rumors surrounding the death of Mozart, and an episode based on the plague that broke out in London in 1665 - these works are about the relationship between man and death and are set in Western These works are set in Western Europe, and are based on the theme of man's relationship with death. Schnittke reinterpreted the four texts from his own point of view, and in addition to a prologue composed from a five-page fragment found in Pushkin's estate, he incorporated an episode from the novel "Egyptian Nights" and set the music to music in a variety of styles and techniques. The music is composed in a variety of styles and techniques.In "Mozart and Salieri," quotations from Mozart's works are also heard. In this recording, after careful research by conductor Vladimir Jurowski, all the music Schnittke composed for this project (including some parts that were deleted in the video editing) has been reconstructed and included in the recording.
