Description:

The long-awaited new recording of the complete work! Handel's "Porro" sung by the conductor himself in addition to the famous singers. In February 1731, Handel's "Porro" premiered successfully at the Royal Opera House, where it was performed with great success along with many of his business rivals, and was frequently revived in London and abroad. The libretto was adapted from "Alessandro in India," prepared two years earlier for the Neapolitan master Leonardo Vinci by Metastasio, the foremost opera librettist of the time. Queen Cleofede, who is forced to marry Alessandro (Alexander the Great), the conqueror of India, searches for a way to live with her husband King Polo, who has escaped execution by dressing as a warrior in plain clothes, and is saved by Alessandro's generosity when all else fails. ...... The three acts are conducted by the famous singer Marco Angioloni, who himself plays Alessandro. The group will be accompanied by a reliable lineup of singers, including Christopher Lowry, who has been active at the traditional Göttingen Handel Festival, and female singers Lucia Martín-Cartón and Giuseppina Bridelli, both from Spain, who are making remarkable strides, along with the talented members of Il Groviglio, which he formed in 2018. The interpretation of the works is well captured and entertaining. This is the first recording of the complete "Polo" since the 2000 recording under Biondi and the 2006 recording under Konrad Junghener at the Göttingen-Händel Festival, and the long-awaited release of a new recording suitable for the 2020s in the historical setting of the Crusade Room at the Palace of Versailles.
