Rozhestvensky's two premieres] Russian master Gennady Rozhestvensky, who died in 2018, was not only an excellent interpreter of his country's music, but was also known for his wide-ranging search for repertoire beyond Russia. The two premieres of Rozhestvensky's repertoire, both from the BBC archives, showcase his high level of musicianship and command of works from different countries and periods. Rozhestvensky's Berlioz is best known for his "Symphonie fantastique," which he performed with the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra in London in 1971, and his "Romeo and Juliet," which is the highlight of the repertoire. Rozhestvensky's control of detail and the liberation of power by the BBC Symphony Orchestra are truly remarkable. The Scriabin concert with the London Symphony Orchestra, which took place five years prior to the BBC Symphony Orchestra's performance, was also a highly enthusiastic performance, showing a deep understanding of the innovative work from his own country and a desire to express it.Paul Bailey's remastering, which conveys a good sense of the live soundstage and has a wide range and clear sight lines, is more than sufficient to convey the excellence of this performance.
