This disc contains Buxtehude's Passion Cantatas. The serial cantata "The Limb of Our Jesus" is Buxtehude's only cantata with Latin lyrics and is considered one of his masterpieces. The contemplative and mystical sound, sometimes accompanied by surprising dissonances, strongly appeals to the listener's heart while recalling the various parts of Jesus' body at the crucifixion. The accompanying piece, "Gedi he nisi nai nai nai masu" (He begets our illnesses), is a work with more dramatic ups and downs. Opera Musica, founded in 2011, is dedicated to early German Baroque vocal works. The five SSATB singers are joined by two violins, two violas da gamba, violone, tulzian, lute and organ in a sensitive and precise performance. Naxos Japan
