Langgaard, Rued (1893-1952)

Description:

The first live recording in 109 years by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra of Langård's Symphony No. 1, which Langård completed at the age of 17! Grieg is said to have been not only impressed, but also frightened. At the age of 14, he began work on his First Symphony, which he completed at the age of 17. The piece consists of five movements, each titled "Lapping Waves and Glimpses of the Sun," "Flowers in the Mountains," "Voices from the Past," "Mountain Climbing," and "Courage," and is structured like a symphonic poem. However, due to the length of the performance and the immensity of the orchestral composition, the Danish Concert Association, whose mission is to perform Danish orchestral works, refused to perform it. Lango then approached Berlin, where his family occasionally visited, and entrusted the score to Artur Nikisch, which led to a breakthrough and the premiere. The premiere on April 10, 1913 by the 102-member Berlin Philharmonic under Max Fiedler was a great success, and the 19-year-old Langó was called to the stage six times. After the premiere, Langó donated the score he used for the performance to the Institute of Music in Berlin. At the end of World War II, the Soviet army took the score to Moscow, but it was returned to East Berlin in 1959.Recorded here is a live recording of the Berliner Philharmoniker's reperformance of the work 109 years after its premiere. The SACD hybrid recording is also a nice feature of this high-quality release. Naxos Japan
