Schubert (1797-1828)

Description:

After graduating at the top of her class from the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Tokyo-born pianist Yasuyo Yano studied at the Conservatory in Lucerne, Switzerland. Originally a modern piano player, she was impressed by the sound of Mozart's Violin Sonata performed by Giuliano Carmignola and Andrea Marcon in 2001, and started playing the fortepiano as well. Today, she is a performer who can play both the modern piano and the fortepiano at will. Yano has long been deeply moved by Schubert's music, but he felt that a modern piano could not fully express Schubert as he envisioned him, so he decided to order a replica of the Konrad Graf that Schubert owned in his later years from Christopher Clark. Ten years after the order was placed, the instrument was finally completed, and Schubert began recording the 11 sonatas he had completed. This is the second recording following the previous one which contained No. 18 and No. 16. Those who think that the sound of ancient instruments is mild will be surprised by the intensity of the sound from the beginning of No. 19. The dramatic ups and downs of the tight tempo of the 31-minute performance are truly worthy of the reputation of "homage to Beethoven. The performance of No. 7, in which both movements are designated as "Allegro moderato," is a complete turnaround, with a sunny and peaceful mood. The melodic beauty and traditional dance rhythms that we have come to expect from the young Schubert are flourished throughout. This time, instrument maker Christopher Clarke himself was present for the recording, and he brings out even a stormy sound at times from the six-pedal Graf replica, letting us hear the variety of its expressive power. The recording conveys the vividness of the sound, and is a must-listen for Schubert lovers and historical piano enthusiasts. Naxos Japan
