A member of the "Nevermind" ensemble, which is known for its members, including the talented harpsichordist Jean Rondeau, the French violist Robin Faro is also a prominent bass player in the ongoing series of recordings of the complete works of Marin Marais on the Ricercar label. Robin Faro. The Versailles label, which is becoming a center for the performance and study of French Baroque music, is proud to present a Marais album featuring this gifted ensemble of virtuosi. The "Exotic Suite" is a unique work from the late Baroque period that should not be overlooked as a forerunner of the coming Orientalism. The two keyboard players play both organ and clavecin, and several string players also play repellant strings. The depth of interpretation and the freshness of the recordings are a perfect way to appreciate the variety of French Baroque, both in the virtuosity of relatively well-known works such as "Labyrinth" and "Tamashii," and in the brilliance of less well-known works, each with its own, perhaps, obscure title.
