Even after Bruckner completed a symphony, he often modified it for various reasons, so that there are sometimes several different drafts or versions of the same work. This project is to record all 11 Bruckner works, in 19 different versions, by 2024, the bicentennial of Bruckner's birth. Poschner, who has been the principal conductor of the Linz Bruckner Orchestra since 2017, plays with an impressive low string sound throughout. In the first movement, the tight singing of the first theme is contrasted with the soft, crisp expression of the second theme. The second movement is limpid and solemn, and the wistful melody of the oboe in the first theme is outstandingly beautiful. The third movement, in which various melodies develop on the low strings, is full of breathtaking excitement. The fourth movement, too, is a climax of the piece, with the dotted rhythms that dominate the entire movement and the tempo changes that are gradual and sudden.#bruckner2024 is a project by Vienna-based label Capriccio, under the supervision of leading Bruckner scholar and Yale School of Music professor Paul Hawkshaw, to record every manuscript of Bruckner's complete symphonic works. The scores of the new Bruckner complete works, which are currently being published, will be used for a small number of the pieces. For the first piece, No. 6, we are using the Williamson NBG III/1: 6, a new complete book that is being prepared for publication. The conductor will be Markus Poschner throughout the entire cycle, and the orchestra will be led by Poschner's own Linz Bruckner Orchestra with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. The #bruckner2024 project aims to record the complete manuscripts of all Bruckner symphonies by 2024, the bicentennial of Bruckner's birth. Such a project itself is conceivable to anyone who knows that Bruckner has problems with different manuscripts, but what sets this series apart from others is that it "attempts to reflect the latest research. It is actually difficult to create a complete collection based mainly on the results of musicological research, rather than on the values of the conductor or the circumstances of the orchestra. However, Dr. Paul Hawkshaw, who is well known for his Bruckner research, serves as a consultant for this project and provides full academic backup.The performance will use scores published or to be published in the ongoing "New Anton Bruckner Collection" (such as "No. 4" revised by Korstvedt, "No. 5" revised by Gault, "No. 8" revised by Hawkshaw, etc.) as much as possible. In addition to celebrating the 200th anniversary of Bruckner's birth, #bruckner2024 will also provide a glimpse into 100 years of Bruckner research, and will satisfy our ears and curiosity.
