Description:
A collection of chamber music with flute by German Baroque composer Hofmeister. All are world premiere recordings. Hofmeister was the most popular composer in Vienna until the 1780s, but he is also known for his highly successful publishing business, which he founded in 1785, and which brought out a series of works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and others. The six works on this album all reflect Hofmeister's well-balanced compositional sense, and the style of the C minor quartet is particularly dramatic, reminiscent of Beethoven. The Piatti Quartet, led by London-based Slovenian flutist Bijak and Trotovšek, also from Slovenia, and featuring Japanese viola player Tetsumi Nagata, will be a close ensemble. Naxos Japan
