Description:
Gardiner's masterpiece, destined to be performed at the Palace of Versailles in the composer's honor, will be revived on ancient instruments! Gardiner is a period conductor who has long devoted his energies to the revival of Berlioz. He has been performing with the London Symphony Orchestra, and he will appear again at the Palace of Versailles to perform with the Orchestre Revolutionnelle et Romantique, his own group of ancient instruments that has an overwhelming advantage in period interpretations of 19th century works. The live recording of the fatal opera was performed with the "sound of the time" as envisioned by the composer. Since it is difficult to record the entire work even on modern instruments, it is extremely valuable to have a full performance of the work on film on ancient instruments, based on the model of the composer's lifetime. A few years after the success of his "Symphonie fantastique," Berlioz began composing operas, the world that inspired him, and his "Benvenuto Cellini," published in 1838, is an ambitious work that sheds light on the legendary Italian sculptor. The first performance, however, was a disaster due to many difficulties, and although it was subsequently staged by Liszt in Weimar and in London, it was not a success during the composer's lifetime. If the reason for the failure was the many points to be considered in the performance, this recording, which is the fruit of the ambitious efforts of Gardiner and other talented people, is a richness that could make a significant contribution to the restoration of the composer's music. The stage is a period instrument orchestra on stage, and the performance is performed on the stage of the former Royal Opera House, whose interior has been restored to the way it was when Berlioz was invited to perform there, while avoiding the difficulties of staging a concert. The singers' true-to-life singing is also breathtaking, and this is an excellent project that could only have been made possible with the use of video. *There is some noise in the audio channel at 2 hours, 42 minutes and 44 seconds, but the label has deemed that it does not interfere with the viewing experience.
