Description:
Since the 19th century, three composers before Bach, Scheidt, Schein, and Schütz, have been called the "three great German S's". It is a mere coincidence of history, however, that the great Scheidemann organist, whose name also begins with the letter S (ch), has not yet come into the limelight. The greatness of this composer's art, which laid the foundation for the art of organ music in the northern part of Germany in the 17th century, is clearly demonstrated in this recording. If organ music was the essence of the Hamburg great Scheidemann, the German composers of the 17th century did not have the idea of making a strict distinction between organ and harpsichord music, and we are likely to learn more about how elaborate and eloquent Scheidemann's keyboard music world was from his harpsichord playing than from his organ. We will learn more about how elaborate and eloquent Scheidemann's keyboard music world was through his harpsichord performances. The harpsichord performance of Scheidt's keyboard piece is also an example of comparison, and the sound of a fine early 17th century model instrument played by Jan Moulin, a leader of the new generation of European classical music, combined with Ricercar's naturalistic recording, quietly conveys the charm of the work (and the certainty of the writing style that is as good as that of the three German greats of the same era, including Scheidt) in a quiet performance. The recording is a gem that quietly conveys the charm of the work (and the certainty of the writing, which is as good as the three major German Ss of the period, including Scheidt) in a quiet performance. Scheidemann is one of the few composers whose biographical information is available, so the commentary is also valuable. Naxos Japan
