Led Zeppelin, a band at the pinnacle of the hard rock scene, debuted in 1968 and released a string of mega-selling albums before disbanding in 1980. Led Zeppelin's bassist, keyboardist, and arranger, John Paul Jones, contributed greatly to the direction of the band. After Led Zeppelin's breakup, he has continued to arrange and produce music for various artists in addition to his own productions. This second solo album by this living legend of the British rock world is now available in a new UHQCD/paper-jacket edition!
The Thunderthief" was released in 2001 on Discipline Global Mobile, a label sponsored by King Crimson's Robert Fripp. Fripp plays guitar on the first track, "Leafy Meadows.
While the first album consisted entirely of instrumentals, John Paul Jones himself sings vocals on four songs on this album, expanding the range of his musicality even further than on the previous album.Backed by the rhythm section of Nick Beggs (stick) & Tal Bryant (ds), the band has created a new sound that mixes heaviness and pop, away from the illusion of Led Zeppelin. This is an emotional piece that offers a rare vocal performance by Jonesy!
