Following his collaboration with Charlotte Adigery on "Topical Dancer," Bolis Pupul's long-awaited solo debut album is now available on the Soulwax label, Deewee. Letter To Yu" is the debut solo album by Bolis Pupul, who emerged from Ghent, Belgium, the home of Soulwax, and quickly became one of the hottest artists with the hit "Topical Dancer. It was produced by Soulwax. This album was inspired by a trip to Hong Kong, the roots of his late mother. The album sublimates contemplations of loss, grief, ancestry, belonging and separation, and identity into a new sound. The first single "Completely Half," which was pre-cut with the album announcement, is based on field recordings made in the Hong Kong subway system.With a wonderful assemblage of his cross-cultural roots (Boris was born to a Chinese mother and a Belgian father), he creates a unique sound world that is at once nimble and restrained, melancholic and exotic, with a strange tugging at the heart of it. This is a joint release by Soulwax's own label, Deewee, and Paris-based Bico's Music, which includes Christine and the Queens and Manu Chao, among others.
