REDSPIDER’s fourth installment of “REALSCHOOLMIX.” The fourth installment of the REALSCHOOLMIX series, compiled like an intensive course in accordance with the “rules” set by REDSPIDER themselves. This installment’s theme is “the ’70s.” The 1970s saw reggae—which began to take shape in the late 1960s—solidify its identity, with roots reggae, heavily influenced by Rastafarianism, rising to prominence, eventually reaching its zenith, and then beginning to fade. While reggae gained global recognition through the international success of Jimmy Cliff and Bob Marley, sound systems back in Jamaica continued to play early reggae covers, sweet and romantic lovers’ songs that carried on the rocksteady tradition, roots rock infused with Rasta messages, and protest songs reflecting the social climate of the time—countless masterpieces on a variety of themes, still unknown to the world, continued to play. From one-drop to rockers and on to steppers, the beats that would form the foundation of reggae were established, giving rise to a succession of masterpieces that would later be called "foundation" tracks. This album compiles the very essence of 70s reggae, meticulously selected from a soundman’s perspective and compiled from dubplates. Featuring a total of 46 tracks, including that beloved anthem so popular among fans.
