The latest release from GONDWANA is a richer version of her critically acclaimed debut, euphoric and uplifting new spiritual jazz from new generation UK saxophonist/flutist Jasmin Myra. Jasmine Myra is a composer/flute/saxophonist based in Leeds, northern England, who first came to prominence in the creative Leeds music scene. She was later discovered by Matthew Halsall, who heads GONDWANA in the UK, and released her debut album, Horizons, in 2022, produced by Matthew himself while serving as a supporting member of Gogo Penguin, Hanya Lani, and others. Her meditative ensemble sound, influenced by Auravul Arnalds, Bonobo, Moses Sumney, Shabaka Hutchings, Kenny Wheeler, and others, was so beautiful that it was like looking at the horizon, and was highly praised by Giles Peterson and others. This new album is also full of melodious, beautiful and profound arrangements, intelligent and emotional sound, and liberating music that is ECM jazz/electronica/ambient on the same line.The members are Jasmine Myra's saxophone/flute, plus bass clarinet/harp/string quartet, etc., for a maximum of 12 members, a collective sound that includes local Leeds members who were also on her previous album, who deftly understand the subtle textures of her music. The themes of rediscovery, gaining confidence, and overcoming mental health struggles after a lockdown experience are reflected in the shimmering sound. Mixed by Greg Freeman, who has worked with Hanya Lani, Matthew Halsall, Portico Quartet, and others.
