The series of complete operas by Sebastian Weigle and the Frankfurt Opera will now include Richard Strauss's (1864-1949) epic "The Shadowless Woman". The work is said to have been inspired by Mozart's "The Magic Flute," but its content is difficult to grasp in its entirety. Nevertheless, Weigle, who specializes in Richard Strauss, has managed to put the entire work into perspective. It is a large-scale opera requiring a large orchestra and a large number of singers, but everything is well-balanced and the result is satisfactory. Terje Stensvold, who played Mr. Dye's Barak, retired from the stage after the 2014 season. This was her "farewell performance," but she showed no signs of it with her full and rich singing.
