Description:

Legendary live performances from 1979 and 1980 with Kurt Sanderling on a single SACD single layer disc. The Brahms First Concerto is a rare masterpiece, the ultimate performance of all time! The original Kontrapunkt disc was mastered for the first time by Mr. Saito of Altus, and is now available on SACD for the first time only at Tower Records. Richter-Haasar performed Beethoven and Brahms with the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kurt Sanderling in 1979 and 1980. The performance of Brahms is especially wonderful, and I would say that it is the ultimate performance of the same piece. The Emperor" was recorded about two months before Richter-Hauser's sudden death. ALTUS has licensed and painstakingly remastered this unforgettable masterpiece and is releasing it on SACD single layer for the first time as a SACD release. When this recording was released, it was a surprise to hear a live performance by Sanderling on a minor Danish label, but it also caught my attention that the pianist was Richter-Haasar.Richter-Hauser recorded mainly German works, including concertos and solo Beethoven and Brahms, for the EMI and PHILIPS labels in the late mono and early stereo periods, but after that, he was away from major-label recordings, and in his later years, no recordings were released. In his later years, he did not release any recordings. For this reason, I had nostalgic memories of Richter-Haeser, but I was also curious about how his performances in his later years were going. However, these newly released performances of his later years were exactly the orthodox German music, and the core and foundation of his music were still there in the profound sound. Not only were they reminiscent of Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2 recorded with Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra on the EMI label in November 1958, which is probably the most famous recording, but as one listens to their even more thorough musical perspective, it is clear that this Brahms No. 1 in particular is often regarded as the best performance I have ever heard. It is clear that the Brahms First in particular has been rated by many as the best performance they have ever heard. The acclaimed Sanderling's support is also important, and the live interaction and the piano's skillful guidance are superb. This is a performance of the German mainstream, and it is a live record that should be preserved for posterity. (1/2)
