The CD set is a 2-CD set that is a great listening experience! This 2-CD set is a collection of mainly French music by Cluytens and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. All of the recordings are first time releases, with Ibert in particular being a standout. The little-known ballet "Jupiter's Love" was premiered at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in 1946, so it is music of its own time. The music is full of modern beauty, and the strings, woodwinds, and brass are all worth listening to. The harp and percussion also play an active role in this work, which is full of the joys of modern orchestration, like a colorful fair! It is a rare opportunity to hear the music performed by Cluytens in this period. The "Symphonie fantastique" and "Pictures at an Exhibition," two of Cluytens' favorites for which several different recordings remain, are also performed with great pleasure, filled with the joy of new discoveries. The performance is full of vitality, and the musicians have excellent control over every detail of the music. The richly-colored sound palette and the fertile sound effects were a masterstroke. It is a masterpiece.[I have never heard such a delightful fantasy symphony. I am not exaggerating when I say that (Ibert) is the best of the best, and this disc is a must-listen. The stylish tone of the music is superb.
