The Tommy Bolin Band
Description:
Tommy Bolin, who has been in many bands and made the music his own everywhere he went, has released two FM broadcast recordings of the first live shows by the early members of his first leader band after the breakup of the fourth Deep Purple band, in a 2-CD set of two shows! Tommy began work on his solo album "Teaser" (1975) in 1975. He joined Deep Purple during its recording, so he was unable to tour his solo work at that time. This show is from the "Teaser" tour, which started one month after Purple broke up in March 1976, and the time period that seems to be right after his second solo album "Privete Eyes" was released in September of that year.Although his solo career would end after only about eight months, as he would die in December at the age of only 25 due to drugs, Tommy's precious recordings have not faded away as he embarked on a new challenge! Tommy Bohlin may have an image of being a hard rock guitarist in Japan, perhaps because he was in Deep Purple, but what was Tommy's real musical goal? But you may be able to hear a part of it from these live recordings. Tommy played guitar and sang in his solo band, which he started a month after Purple broke up. Aside from Mark Stein (key), formerly of Vanilla Fudge, the initial members of the band, playing on disc 1, were black players: Narada Michael Walden (ds, ex-Mahavishnu Orchestra), Reggie McBride (b, Stevie Wonder), and Norma Jean Bell, a female saxophonist. Bell, all black players. On disc 2, on the other hand, the band members changed, and in addition to Norma Jean Bell and Mark Stein, the bassist was Jimmy Haslip (later of the Yellowjackets) and the drummer was his brother Johnny Bolin, a young white guy. Perhaps due to Tommy's drug addiction, the lineup was unstable, and the band members changed every two months, but the nuances of the performances were quite different even on the same songs. It would be good to enjoy the difference.
