The Joy is a five-piece a cappella group from Hammersdale, South Africa. They have been praised by Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson, and have released their debut album on Transgressive Records. The Joy, a five-piece a cappella group from South Africa, will release their self-titled debut album, recorded in one take at Paul Epworth's Church Studios in late 2023 and captured on film. In Hamersdale, South Africa, where the Zulu tradition of a cappella is central to the cultural identity of the people, one must transcend the sum of the constituent parts in order to truly be noticed. However, the first teenage boys to sing together, Pastor (Ntokozo Bright Magcaba), Duzie (Melokuhle Mkhungo), Guduza (Sphelele Hlophe), Sthombe (Phelelani Sithole), Marcus ( Sanele Ngcobo) have no reason to stop and think.In Hammersdale, Ladysmith Black Mambazo has been revered for decades. Their Grammy-winning success is testament to the fact that the magic of Isicathamiya Music (Isicathamiya Music) is not limited to the townships where it flourished. Sure, The Joy grew up listening to Ladysmith Black Mambazo, but their harmonies are reminiscent of another vocal tradition, Mbube. Mbube means "lion," and when he sings, he has the power of a lion. Lead vocalist Duzie seems to have inherited the lineage; Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson profess to be their fans; Jennifer calls them "my favorite group" and has invited them to her American talk show.
