Born in Starnberg, Germany, Friederike Schreck began playing piano and recorder at the age of 7. After leaving a local secondary school, she decided to pursue a serious career as an antiquarian musician, studying with harpsichordist Michael Ebert in Munich. 2000. She studied harpsichord and bass with Jesper Christensen and improvisation with Rudolf Lutz at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Today she performs in concert halls in Germany and around the world, and is frequently invited to perform at ancient music festivals. This album is a collection of music from the English Baroque period, and it reminds us that there were so many varied and wonderful works in England during this period, which is said to have had fewer great composers than Germany, France, Italy, and other countries. Of the 121 keyboard pieces, more than half are Catholic liturgical songs, others are part-songs such as Tallis and Taverner, and about 20 pieces are of unknown authorship. The authorship of about 20 of the songs is unknown.Nine pieces are for cittern (stringed instrument) and are considered important as the earliest works for this instrument. Naxos Japan
