Nelsons & the Gewandhaus Orchestra Finally Starts! February 2018 Inaugural Concert of the 21st Kapellmeister of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra Andris Nelsons was appointed the 21st Kapellmeister of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra in February 2018, and the inaugural concert was recorded and recorded for the Blu-ray and DVD Ray and DVD will be available for purchase. The concert opens with "Relief for Orchestra" by German pianist and composer Steffen Schleiermacher, born in 1960. This will be a new experiment that will lead to the creation of great music through cooperation between the two orchestras. The next piece will be Berg's Violin Concerto, one of the most famous works of the 20th century, featuring Nelsons' fellow violinist Baiba Sklide as soloist.This work, which Berg dedicated to the death of Alma Mahler's daughter Manon in 1935, is the first violin concerto written in 12-tone technique, but it is a work that is often performed for its aesthetic music as well as its high level of technique and intelligence. Baiba Sklide's poetic sound and crisp technique are a highlight. The main program will be Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3 "Scotland". Mendelssohn, who served as Kapellmeister of the Gewandhaus Orchestra, is an important composer for the orchestra. It is no wonder that Nelsons chose this work for his inaugural concert.
