Description:
The "Lake Merbisch Music Festival" was conceived by Herbert Alzen, a singer at the Vienna State Opera, in 1955, and the first festival was held in 1957 after two years of preparation. The first festival was held on Lake Melbisch in 1957 after two years of preparation. Harald Serafin, a baritone from the Vienna Volksoper, was appointed general director in 1993, and Rudolf Biebl was also the conductor. Serafin sang various roles to great acclaim until his retirement in 2013. The current general director is soprano Schellenberger, who sang the role of Barbara in "A Night in Venice" in 2015, and is expected to make the festival even more lively in the future. These CDs were recorded in advance of the performances as souvenirs of the festival, and are excellent, with all the long performances shortened and the highlights concentrated. Naxos Japan
