Description:
Balthasar Hens is a young clarinetist who specializes especially in the bass clarinet. He began his career with the Saarbrücken Theater Orchestra and is currently a member of the Stuttgart Philharmonic, while simultaneously performing as a soloist and chamber musician. The selections on this album range from 20th century composers to the latest contemporary music, but are generally easy listening. Owen Elton starts out heavy, reminiscent of Gavin Bryars, but soon turns to pop tunes. Keith Ramon Cole's Exclusion is an unaccompanied variation on Paganini's famous Caprice, while Bowen's Fantastic Quintet, an English composer active from the late 19th to mid-20th century, is a masterpiece of late Romanticism and Impressionism.
