The success of the "Vitali Project" released by the Italian label Tactus has brought the 17th century Italian musician Giovanni Battista Vitali (1632-1692) into the limelight, and he is now enjoying a renewed reputation and reappraisal. In 2016, I Madrigalisti Estensi, an up-and-coming period ensemble of vocal and instrumental musicians, made the world premiere recording of the complete Evening Prayer for St. Contaldo of Este, a major work composed by Vitali in 1677. I Madrigaristi Estensi is passionate about the discovery and performance of music of the 16th and 17th centuries, especially the composers associated with the Este family of the Duchy of Modena. Founder and musical director Michele Gaddi was born in Modena in 1994, graduated with honors in organ at the Institute of Religious Music in Modena in 2013, and studied ancient music chanting with Sara Mingardo and madrigale playing with Emma Kirkby, one of the hottest names in the Italian ancient music world She is one of the most promising young musicians in the Italian classical music world.
