Description:
Debut album by Dorothea Spelius and Yelizaveta Vassilieva, recipients of the 2022 Fanny Mendelssohn Forderpreis (FMFP) Award for Promoting Mendelssohn! The duo of Dorothea Spelius and Yelizaveta Vassilieva, recipients of the Fanny Mendelssohn Forderpreis (FMFP) award for the promotion of Mendelssohn, make their debut on Es-Dur. The Fanny Mendelssohn Promotion Prize, awarded annually to a musician (individual or group) under the age of 25, also provides a significant stipend to support the recording of a debut album based on an original concept, and is expected to promote the production of original and innovative recordings that are not easily supported by commercial interests. The duo was awarded the prize for their album concept entitled #Wunderkammer (#Wunderkammer/Cabinet of Curiosities).Performing works by Kreisler, Ravel, Toch, Korngold, Weill, and Morricone, the two up-and-comers explore the history of music, revealing how the past and present are juxtaposed in exciting contrasts. The selection of works strikingly illustrates the interplay between media (radio and film) and music, creating a unique album, #Wunderkammer. Dorothea Spelius was born in Berlin in 1996 and studied at Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal College of Music in England and the Lübeck College of Music in Germany. In addition to being a violinist, she also works extensively as a television journalist. Her brother Philip, a cellist, also won the Fanny Mendelssohn Promotion Prize 2023 and is planning his debut album on Es-Dur. Yelizaveta Vasilieva was born in Riga, Radovia in 1995, studied at the E.Darzin Music School in Riga, and made her debut with the Latvian Symphony Orchestra at age 10.She has won many national and international competitions, performed in solo and chamber music concerts around Latvia and Germany, and is currently pursuing her master's degree at the Lübeck College of Music. She met Dorothea Spelius while studying at the Lübeck College of Music and has been working with her since 2018. Tokyo M-Plus
