Description:
Franz Alexander Pessinger, one of the most prominent Viennese arrangers of the Biedermeier era in the first half of the 19th century, studied under Albrechtsberger, also known as Beethoven's teacher, and was a violinist and viola player in the Vienna Court Orchestra from 1798 until his death. As an arranger, he wrote, among other things, string quartet versions of symphonies, which were highly praised by Beethoven and considered by his contemporaries to be on a par with Mozart and Haydn. This album features the first recording of a duo work for violin and viola by Pessinger, composed at a time of great change in music history. Performers are Katja Grutner and Christian Guseth, both members of the Spanzig String Quartet, a period-instrument quartet led by the prodigious Anton Steck. Tokyo M-Plus
