The second ORFEO program by the brilliant Nelsons, born in 1978, and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, for which he has served as principal conductor and music director since September 2008, features Strauss's "Life of Hero" and "Knight of Roses" Suites, with their opulent sound and grand scale. Strauss. The second ORFEO release features Strauss' "Life of a Hero" from a live recording of a concert at the Birmingham Symphony Hall in 2009, the 60th anniversary of the composer's death, and a session recording of the "Knight of Roses" Suite. Nelsons' previous recording of Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony (ORFEO780091) was also full of ups and downs with well-sung melodic lines, and in this Strauss, he shows a glimpse of his young charisma, completely taking control of the orchestra and playing it to the fullest, with a fullness befitting its brilliant content. The "Knight of Roses" Suite is another example of Nelsons' theatrical achievements, and the stage presence is very vivid.Please note that there will be applause after the live performance of "Life of a Hero".
